Put simply, Yin poses target the connective tissues — including fascia, tendons, and ligaments — surrounding the major joints to improve mobility and flexibility. The longer holds characteristic of Yin also allow us to stimulate the associated seasonal meridians through a thoughtful selection of postures. By nature, Yin is feminine and cooling.
Yang poses, on the other hand, are designed to build strength, stamina, and balance while maintaining a sense of ease within effort. The breath remains steady, smooth, and unforced to prevent strain and support a calm, focused mind. Yang is inherently masculine and warming.
In terms of physical sensation, Yin relies on gravity as its primary tool, encouraging deep introspection and breath awareness to discover the “Goldilocks” point — where stretch and pressure…
